Understanding the principles of treating chronic pain and the nutritional problems that go along with it

Walter W. Golden, P.T., CNFC
Hello,
Over the past several weeks, I have had a number of people suggest that I develop a letter, principally on chronic pain and nutrition. This is a new adventure, since I normally do not send many e-mails. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at walter@therightkeys.com and if you wish not to receive this, e-mail me and let me know.
My purpose is to send out a letter once per month so that you perhaps can understand the principles of treating chronic pain and the nutritional problems that go along with it. I will do my best to in form you of the newest research and thought involved with chronic and acute pain and the treatment process that is involved.
With this comment, let me identify the four principles of living a life without pain and limited sickness. These are the foundations of living.
1. The human body is designed to be well hydrated. When it is not, toxins develop and joints start to break down. In fact, a whole host of things start to happen. The amount of water to drink that is generally agreed on is one half of your body weight in ounces. That does not mean coffee or colas or even beer. IT MEANS DRINKING ONE HALF OF YOUR BODY WEIGHT IN WATER DAILY.
2. Reduce the amount of simple carbohydrates in your diet, especially sugar and anything that is white in color. Some of the things that we enjoy the most, should be reduced dramatically. Things such as pasta, cookies, ice cream, bread, and any soft drink. Eat more protein and especially meat unless you have a specific problem that forces you off of meat. EAT A LOT OF COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES such as fresh vegetables and fresh fruit.
3. TAKE ANTI-OCCIDENTS DAILY. These are foods that rid the body of free radicals. Free radicals are the products of incomplete burning off of the oxygen molecule. It’s sole purpose is to damage or destroy normal cells. This process eventually leads to aging, diseases and the inability to function. I will have more to say on this at a later date.
4. Finally, the fourth foundation is to EXERCISE. No matter who you are, you need to exercise. Minimally, two times per week. It’s better if you exercise four times per week. The next questions that are always asked are, “What kind of exercise? Research reveals that aerobic activity will do you well. How ever, you also need to strengthen the muscle structures by lifting weights. This will strengthen the immune system, which is good for you. Twice per week will be fine. I lift weights three to four times per week. I also ride a bicycle several times per week. Exercise will also help to reduce STRESS that interferes with body functions and that can be devastating.
I will have more to say on these foundation principles in future nuggets, but for now, I will close and I hope that you will remember this: WHEN YOU LOOSE YOUR HEALTH, YOU HAVE LOST EVERY THING.
I wish you the best of health and God bless each of you.
